Un an après The Stage Names, Will Sheff et sa bande seront déjà de retour le 9 septembre avec un album intitulé The Stand Ins. Enregistré à Austin et produit par le fidèle collaborateur Brian Beattie, l’album constituera la seconde partie d’un double album, complément indispensable à The Stage Names. Le visuel de l’album est d’ailleurs toujours signé de l’artiste William Schaff (voir ci-contre). Enfin, The Stand Ins est le dernier album auquel participe Jonathan Meiburg, le claviériste ayant annoncé il y a quelques semaines son désir de désormais se consacrer exclusivement à Shearwater. Sur l’album figure un duo Meiburg/Sheff, « Lost Coastlines », qui scellerait cette séparation amicale.
