Après huit longues années de silence (Antiphon remonte à 2013!), les prog-folkeux texans de Midlake ont enfin annoncé la sortie de leur cinquième album. L’opus s’intitule For the Sake of Bethel Woods et paraitra le 8 mars 2022 via ATO Records/ Bella Union. Les auteurs de l’impérissable The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006), dévoilent dans la foulée l’inédit très flottant et orienté clavier « Meamwhile… » ainsi que l’annonce d’un concert parisien programmé à l’Alhambra pour le 3 avril prochain.

Ces huit années d’absence ont été marquées par la disparition du père du claviériste/flutiste Jesse Chandler, décédé en 2018, qui aurait influencé le retour aux affaires du groupe. Le leader Eric Pulido s’en explique : « He was a lovely human, and it was really heavy and sad, and he came to Jesse in a dream. I reference it in a song. He said, ‘Hey, Jesse, you need to get the band back together.’ I didn’t take that lightly. We had already had these feelings with everyone in the band of, oh, this could be a cool thing to do. But the dream was a kind of beautiful depiction of a purpose to reconvene and make music together as friends.”
